Your hearing aid can be subsidized by EOPYY
Hearing aid prices may have come down compared to the past, but it's definitely an expense that concerns many people, especially older people. However, hearing loss is a problem that should never be left untreated, as it can lead to serious mental and intellectual problems.
Fortunately, anyone insured in any fund has the possibility to buy hearing aids with a subsidy from EOPYY. It is a simple process that anyone can easily do. Let's see step by step exactly what you need to do.
1. Go to a hospital, the IKA or a private ENT, in order to have an audiogram and get an opinion about your hearing loss and the need to get hearing aids.
2. Visit your hearing care professional to find the right hearing aids for you. Based on your audiogram and needs, an experienced hearing care professional will let you try different hearing aids until you find one that is comfortable for you and fits your lifestyle.
3. If the provider is contracted with EOPYY, then you will only pay the amount of your participation, which amounts to 25% of the value of the headphones, unless the 75% corresponding to EOPYY is greater than the amount of €450. That is, the EOPYY subsidy can reach up to €450, which corresponds to 75% of the value, if the amount of headphones is €600. If the headphones
hearing loss have a higher price, then EOPYY pays up to €450 and the insured pays the remaining amount. If the headphones cost less than €600, then the EOPYY subsidy is 75% of the value and the insured pays 25%.
4. You must provide the hearing aid provider with the audiogram and ENT report. If they are contracted to EOPYY, then you pay directly to them only the amount due to you and then the provider will seek the subsidy directly from EOPYY.
In case of bilateral hearing loss, a second hearing aid is granted and compensated, when the hearing loss exceeds 80 decibels in both ears.
The EOPYY subsidy is renewed every four years.
Children
In children up to 16 years of age, the hearing aids are replaced every year, provided that their hearing acuity deteriorates and this is proven by comparative audiograms and more than 50 decibels of hearing. The cost contribution is 10%.
If the hearing-impaired person is a child (5-17 years old), in addition to the EOPYY grant, he is also entitled to the amount of €3,000 granted by the Ministry of Education for the purchase of two hearing aids.
Therefore, following the same procedure, a school-age child is entitled to a total of €3,540-4,080 for the purchase of earphone(s). The EOPYY amount goes to the hearing aid provider, while €3,000 is given to the child's family.
