The measurement of hearing ability is a specialized method called audiometry and is done on a device called an audiometer or audiograph. Tone audiometry is the most frequently used audio test and aims to search for the perception of pure tones of various frequencies.
With this specific examination, the lowest-intensity sounds that the examinee can perceive in a series of frequencies are recorded. Practically during the procedure, the patient is in a quiet place and through a special button, he alerts the examiner when he hears the sounds that reach his ears.
These sounds are transmitted to the patient with headphones for the examination of air conduction and with an osteophone, placed behind the ear, for the examination of bone conduction.
